tangerine ting
i’ve worked in beauty/makeup for years. i started off assisting people i admired like my friend kerrie, whom i’ve learned so much from, and then moved into retail beauty for a steady check. i worked at inglot in times square then went on to m.a.c. cosmetics where i “beat my face” every day and gained plenty of knowledge about color, trends, and pushing the boundaries of what is beautiful through their extensive trainings.
the thing about working in beauty is that it can be a catty experience, whether you’re prepping models for the runway, a personality for television, or selling a ruby woo lipstick with a burgundy lip pencil to a customer. that energy was not sustainable for me so i took a break from makeup, only accepting work that resonated with my energy or paid my rate (or higher).
since working less in makeup, i’ve minimized how much makeup i wear. skincare has become my main jam and a form of self-care so i’m fresh-faced a majority of the time. that said, i’ve missed playing with colors and trying out new things so i have decided exploring new looks to spark imagination and keep my makeup hand strong is the move.
i created this look using makeup forever’s flash palette. i blended the red with yellow, creating an orange that ended up turning kind of coral-y on me (makeup can oxygenate and change once it lands on the skin, in case ya didn’t know). i used a mini stippling brush to build the color on layer by layer. i used the stippling brush because mufe’s palette is cream-based and laying it on thick would only cause excess movement of the product, which i didn’t want. i topped eyelids with clear lip glass by m.a.c. for a glossy shine. the lashes were given a boost with the falsies lash lift mascara by maybelline, and i tried the soap brow technique and filled in the gaps with stud brow pencil by m.a.c. surprisingly, i’m feeling this soap brow thing!
my skin prep was spraying and patting into the skin cocokind’s glow essence with sea grape caviar and sealing in moisture using the wild seaweed face cream by samudra skin and sea. i primed using nars’ orgasm illuminator and followed up with face and body foundation by m.a.c. i spot treated trouble areas using bobbi brown’s concealer palette and finished the skin using laura mercier’s translucent powder in medium deep.
on the cheek, i used exhibit a, a very red blush that works best on deep tones but can go from rosy to ronald mcdonald real quick. i used the fluffiest brush i could find to apply it minimally, and highlighted using glossier’s haloscope in topaz.
on the lips, i used naturally transformed lipstick lined with a plum lip pencil, both by m.a.c. and sealed it with a touch of triple x clear shine by nars.
note: this look was very much inspired by the great danessa myricks.
